Myongji Hospital announced three major strategies on Thursday to secure future competitiveness and prepare for the changes in the medical landscape brought about by Covid-19.
Myongji Hospital Chairman Lee Wang-jun presented the three post-Covid-19 strategies -- expanding human resources, creating a patient-centered system innovation, and promoting existing mid-to-long-term plan -- during a ceremony celebrating the 12th anniversary of the hospital's "Mission Day and Vision Week."
"Amid the rapid population aging, the hospital plans to carry out environment changes and digital transformations to prepare for a non-contact era with the Covid-19 virus serving as an opportunity," Lee said. "We can no longer guarantee our future if we don't' transform into a smart futuristic hospital and only partake in past functions and roles of hospitals."
Lee stressed that Myongji Hospital would become a value-oriented hospital by establishing a hospital management environment that prioritizes quality over quantity.
Such a change is vital as the public role of medical institutions will gradually expand, which will also become a measure of value for evaluating hospitals, he added.
"To adapt to the rapidly changing environment and survive in the cutthroat medical field, the hospital needs to conduct three factors successfully -- strategy, human resource, and system," Lee said. "In addition to the consistent and clear strategy of strengthening clinical capacity and advancing R&D, the hospital will secure future competitiveness through new patient-centered system innovation, such as securing excellent personnel and setting up an integrated internal medicine department."
The hospital designated July 1st as Mission Day every year in 2009 to commemorate the declaration of the mission of "Patient First" made by Chairman Lee. The hospital also conducts various programs to realize its mission and reaffirm its commitment by holding a Vision Week during the first week of July.
