Myongji Hospital to provide dementia screening for seniors

Myongji Hospital President Kim Jin-goo (second from right) and Goyang Mayor Lee Jae-jun (to Kim’s left) hold up the cooperation agreement at the city hall on Tuesday.

Myongji Hospital said it would start a free support project for dementia screening for older adults in medical blind spots.

Under an agreement signed on Tuesday, Myongji Hospital and Goyang City will conduct a dementia differential test for seniors from low-income families in the city through the early detection of dementia (CEDD) service.

Four other hospitals based in Goyang -- Ilsan Gospel Hospital, Heavenly Hospital, Jain Medi Hospital, and Goyang Hyumedi Hospital -- also participated in this agreement. The service includes diagnostic medical tests to identify the cause of dementia, CT scans, and consultation with a specialist.

The participants will cooperate on sharing information on dementia-diagnosed patients for follow-up management after differential examination, education, and lectures for dementia-related projects. Myongji Hospital expects to prevent the elderly in the medical blind spot from missing out on treatment due to the financial burden of a dementia differential test.

“Based on the agreement, we will do our best to ensure that senior citizens in Goyang are safe from the risk of dementia,” Goyang City Mayor Lee Jae-jun said.

Myongji Hospital President Kim Jin-goo also said, “The hospital expects that this project, the first in the country to support dementia differential testing through public-private cooperation, will contribute to early detection of dementia and prevention of dementia in low-income elderly households.”
