Myongji Hospital expands healthcare service to Koreans in Africa, Mideast
Myongji Hospital will provide “total life healthcare” service, including telemedicine, for Koreans in Africa and the Middle East, following similar programs for compatriots in the Americas and the Pacific region.
MJ Virtual Care Center and the United Korean Association in Africa and the Middle East signed the Designated Hospital Service Agreement, including health checkups and remote diagnosis, at the hospital in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Monday.
Under the accord, Koreans staying in this region can receive online medical treatment, counseling, and healthcare services by using various wearable medical devices connected to the mobile application developed by the center. They can also get health checkups and examinations in person at Myongji Hospital when they visit Korea.
The hospital has been operating similar programs for ethnic Koreans in Atlanta, Hawaii, and Guatemala.
“The launch of our service to 150,000 Koreans in Africa and the Middle East is especially significant, as this region requires medical services more urgently than other areas,” Myongji Hospital Chairman Lee Wang-joon said. “We will do our best to provide high-quality medical services for compatriots in the region so that they can feel proud of being Koreans.”
Kim Jum-bai, chairman of the association, also said, “I am glad that Koreans in Africa and Mideast, who have had difficulties getting proper medical services amid the Covid-19 pandemic, can now receive health checkups, including treatment for chronic illnesses.”
Kim added that the association believes overseas Koreans could receive quality healthcare services when visiting Myongji Hospital based on the medical records accumulated through remote counseling.
Myongji Hospital opened MJ Virtual Care Center last October and has since been providing total life healthcare service to Koreans in the Americas and business officials operating in the region using its application called MJ Virtual.
