Myongji Hospital opens multiperson hyperbaric oxygen therapy center
Myongji Hospital said it has opened the first multiperson hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber center in Gyeonggi Province.
Myongji Hospital Chairman Lee Wang-jun (center) and other staffs and guests dedicate a multiperson hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber center at the hospital in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Tuesday.
The provincial government picked Myongji as the medical institution that could install the province’s first multiperson hyperbaric oxygen treatment chamber through open bidding in September last year.
Gyeonggi Province set aside 1.1 billion won ($921,000) to support the installation of a hyperbaric oxygen treatment chamber for severe emergency patients. Myongji Hospital also invested 200 million won into the installation of the chamber.
High-pressure oxygen treatment injects high-pressure oxygen two to three times higher than atmospheric pressure in the chamber, dissolving a large amount of oxygen into the body's blood and supplying oxygen to all parts of the body. The hyperbaric oxygen treatment device is suitable to treat carbon monoxide poisoning, diving disease, gas embolism, burns, brain abscess, bone marrow disease, and Berger's disease.
"The Hospital's hyperbaric oxygen treatment chamber is the largest multi-use chamber in Korea that can treat 12 to 14 people simultaneously," the hospital said. "Since we operate this device 24/7, it is possible to timely treat critical patients within the ‘golden time.’”
Myongji Hospital Chairman Lee Wang-jun said, "With the full support of Gyeonggi Province, this hospital could focus on the device's function, performance, and design, to set the future standard for multiperson hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber."
The hospital will do its best to provide prompt and safe treatment for emergency cases, Lee added.
